India take on Sri Lanka in their last league match on Today with a difficult task of defeating them with a bonus point. Not only this, they will have to pray--if they manage to secure win--that Australia also defeat the Lankan team that will give India any hope of making it to the finals of the CB series.

Given India`s current form, it looks like a tall ask since none of their batsmen has been a source of assurance even as their bowling and fielding has put up a better show. The uncertain top order gives way to a middle order that surrenders unexpectedly when the things are under control.

The team will have to produce their best performance hoping all their departments fire in unison unlike as has been the case so far in the tri-series.


On the other hand Sri Lanka have been a contrast to India improving with each match as their bowlers and batsmen have performed at crucial times complementing each other’s effort. For Sri Lanka, they can play safe and still be assured of a place in the finals.

Brisbane: Virender Sehwag likely to miss play against Australia on Sunday

Virender Sehwag is unlikely to play against Australia on Sunday as reports suggested he is yet to recover fully from the back injury, which forced him to sit out of the match against Sri Lanka.

Senior batsman Sehwag is yet to find form in the series. India go in to the match on a high after finding the much needed boost after two victories and a tie against Sri Lanka that followed.

Australia, meanwhile, suddenly looked out of sorts with two losses back-to-back and the poor form of their explosive batsman David Warner is costing them dearly. After a superb performance in the Test series against India, Ricky Ponting has also been struggling in the ODIs. Ponting has only 11 runs from four innings at an average of 2.75 in the present series.

Meanwhile, India’s record in the last two ODIs at the Gabba would motivate the team. They have won their past two one-day internationals against Australia at the Gabba. However, Australia haven`t been beaten in Brisbane since that last loss to India, in March 2008.

Australia failed to bat out the alloted 41 overs as they fell short at a paltry 158 with 1 ball to spare. The hosts set Sri Lanka a score of 152 runs as victory target according to the D/L method in the sixth ODI of the on going CB series at the SCG on today.

The Australian camp will be relieved with the total, thanks to David Hussey, who fought hard to lift the Aussies from a dangerous position with a half century- his 9th in ODIs.

Over 40.5: Starc pushed a Malinga yorker to mid wicket and took off for a quick single. Starc was nowhere near the crease when Kula scored a direct hit at the bowler's end.

Australia were facing a batting collapse in a rain-affected ODI against Sri Lanka at the SCG on Friday.

Brett Lee was the latest casualty, which left the hosts trembling against a side which is yet to taste victory in the series.

Play resumed between Sri Lanka and Australia after rain relented and the match has been reduced to 41 overs per side. Four bowlers will get to bowl eight overs and one will get nine overs after the match was interrupted by rain at the end of the 26th over when Australia were 88 for six.

Rain had halted play between Australia and Sri Lanka after 26 overs. Australia were 88/6, with David Hussey (15) and Clint McKay (0) at the crease, at the rain interruption.

Australian trouble deepened with the loss of Daniel Christian's wicket as they were 6 down before reaching 100 runs.

Maharoof struck again to leave Australia in a spot of bother as they lost their fifth wicket before reaching 100. They lost Forrest who scored just 16 runs.

Sri Lankans gave little time for the Australian batsmen to settle down after two early blows. Good fielding from Thissara Perera meant the hosts lost their third wicket inside first 15 overs. Australia were 48/3 after fifteen overs. Michael Hussey (5) and Peter Forrest (6) were at the crease.

Australia brought back Michael Hussey for the injured Michael Clarke. The bowling department got a boost with the return of pacer Brett Lee in place of Ryan Harris.

Sri Lanka, who are yet to find a win in the series, made a couple of changes in their squad. Upul Tharanga`s disastrous form has caught up with him. Lahiru Thirimanne resurfaced in the eleven. Farveez Maharoof replaced Sachithra Senanayake.

Adelaide ODI: Dhoni earns India thrilling tie with Sri Lanka

In the end it was MS Dhoni again who was left with the task of finishing the proceedings for India and the ice cool captain did not disappoint -- only difference being that this time he left the fans wandering whether to smile or scowl.

The fifth ODI of the CB series ended in a dramatic tie that saw both India and Sri Lanka post an identical scoreline of 237/9 in their respective 50 overs. For India, Gautam Gambhir top scored with 91 runs and Dhoni was unbeaten on 58.

Indian captain MS Dhoni embarked upon yet another mission to drive his side to a sensational finish and he almost succeeded in repeating his exploits against Australia earlier in the series.

The rotation policy of Indian cricket team seems to have started backfiring as was evident from the dismissal of Sachin Tendulkar early in their innings. Compared to the innings Tendulkar played at Perth where he looked in his elements, here at Adelaide he looked out of sorts and eventually got out edging Nuwan Kulasekera behind stumps for the score of 15.

Virat Kohli (15) suffered a rare failure with the bat while Rohit Sharma’s frustrating wait for a substantial knock continued as he was run out after scoring just 15. Suresh Raina also perished soon after continuing his rough patch as he was snapped up by Kumar Sangakkara behind the stumps putting a full stop to his innings at eight.

Meanwhile, the man in-form Gautam Gambhir played another brilliant knock to provide a solid ground for the skipper for a late flurry. En route his knock he hit six boundaries but once again was unfortunate to miss a century as a wrong call from Dhoni cost him his wicket that paved the way for Sri Lanka’s comeback late into the match.

Barring Gambhir and Dhoni, every other Indian batsman failed to play a knock of any significance.

The failure however was overshadowed by what transpired in the final over of the match when India needed nine runs to claim their third victory in a row with Malinga all set to throw down the final six balls.

The departure of Gautam Gambhir threatened to derail the Indian innings and with the inconsistent Jadeja (3) going for big shots at a time when rotating the strike seemed more sensible, it was left to Dhoni to steer the chase.

After struggling for 10 deliveries, Jadeja succumbed to a soft dismissal off Perera. With 53 runs still needed, India’s most economical bowler of the day R Ashwin joined his skipper in the middle and played a useful innings of 14 runs before getting out to Malinga’s slower one.

Playing in his first match of the series, Irfan Pathan hit a trademark six off Angelo Mathews to wipe the deficit to 15 runs. He was dismissed in the next delivery which brought in R Vinay on the crease.

In the mean time, Dhoni completed his fifty, still holding the fort taking the match to the final over, something that he has developed a liking to.

With nine runs needed of the final six balls, Dhoni and Vinay managed five runs between them before the latter was run out leaving the captain with a daunting task of scoring four runs of the last delivery.

Dhoni lashed hard at the final ball towards deep cover, ending with a triple, bringing an end to a dramatic run chase with a tie.

India have made two changes in their side. Sachin Tendulkar comes in place of Virender Sehwag and Irfan Pathan replaces Zaheer Khan.

For the first time in the Australian summers this season, Indian team has exhibited confidence abundantly which was evident from their last outing against Australia in Perth ODI on Sunday. Captain MS Dhoni`s gave a fitting finishing touch to a sparkling fielding and bowling performance to register India`s second consecutive win of the CB series in a humdinger.

The team will be looking to carry the momentum on Tuesday as well when they meet Sri Lanka in Adelaide. Lankan team managed to push their opponents on the edge but failed to walk the final mile. They will have to produce their best when they face rejuvenated India, firing all cylinders to register their first win of the tri-series.

Ind vs Aus Live score: Oz peg India back with Dravid's wicket

Rahul Dravid was the second Indian batsman to fall, bowled by Ben Hilfenhaus at a score of 29 runs as the scorecard read 100/2.

Meanwhile, opener Gautam Gambhir revived himself by scoring a well-timed quickfire half-century. Gambhir, who has not been scoring runs, was under tremendous pressure before this innings.

Gambhir’s 50 came off 55 balls with the help of 8 fours.

India’s Sydney woes had deepened when opener Virender Sehwag threw his wickets away early on after India had conceded a huge lead of 468.

Sehwag slashed a short ball from Hilfenhaus straight to extra-cover where David Warner latched on to a fine diving catch. The Delhi opener made only 4.

India went to tea at 53/1 with Gambhir batting confidently on 39 while Rahul Dravid playing supporting role on 3.

Earlier, skipper Michael Clarke scored an unbeaten triple ton while Hussey scored an unconquered century to guide Australia declare their first innings at a huge 659/4 in reply to India's 191 on the Day 3 of the Sydney Test on Thursday.

Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey remained unbeaten on 329 and 150, respectively. They stitched an unbeaten mammoth 4th wicket partnership of 334 to give Australia a huge lead of 468 runs.

Clarke started the Day 3 where he left off yesterday. The Australian captain became the only sixth Australian to score a triple century in Test cricket when he slammed a triple ton against India immediately after the lunch on Day 3 of the 2nd Test at Sydney.

Clarke’s knock, which was also the highest individual score at SCG, was also the best innings by an Australian captain at home, surpassing Don Bradman's 270 at the MCG in 1937.

The marathon innings came off 468 balls and it was consisted of 39 fours and a six.

Mike Hussey also joined the Australian run-feast by scoring a superlative century. It was Hussey who was more aggressive of the two, hitting boundaries off the flighted balls provided by the Indian spinners. Hussey’s 16th Test ton came from 188 balls. He hit 11 silken fours and a six to reach the century.

While everybody was concentrating on Clarke’s triple ton, Hussey was silently moving fast. He reached 150 in no time. And once he reached the milestone, Clarke declared the innings exactly one hour after the lunch break with a lead of 468 runs.

It was the same story in the morning session on Day 3 of the Sydney Test. Resuming on 482/4, Australia dominated the first session again. The two overnight batsmen- captain Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey- had no problem in plundering runs against a hapless Indian bowling.
