Ministry of Urban development launched common mobility card

The ministry of urban development on Tuesday launched the common mobility card, aimed at enabling commuters travel cashless throughout a city. The rechargeable pre-paid card, named ‘More’, works on the same principle as the Delhi Metro card.

It was unveiled by Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath at the Urban Mobility India (UMI) conference-cum-exhibition in the national capital. Speaking at the conference, Nath said that ‘More’ can be used on various modes of transportation like the Metro, bus, train, taxi and ferry. It can also be used to pay toll across major Indian cities.

Sources told that through this card, one would eventually get access to other modes of transport as well. After testing the card, the government gradually plans to integrate it with autos and taxis as well.

Mr Nath said that this card has been introduced to promote public transport in the country. He said Jaipur would be the first city where this card will be introduced next year. Cardholders from any city can use this plastic card in any other city.

The common mobility card holder from Kolkata can use it in Delhi or Mumbai or any other city. Only tariff will vary from city to city.

Reportedly, the card will be a single point of transaction and commuters can use it for travel in state buses, Metro etc. The card will be attached with bank accounts and will enable travellers to top up the card from their personal accounts.
